Malik Johnson, a.k.a. “99TheProducer,” is a classically trained cellist, composer, and music producer based in Milwaukee, WI. Malik’s Grammy-nominated work as a cellist and producer includes contributions to Kirk Franklin’s Grammy Award-winning album Long Live Love and Masego’s Studying Abroad: Extended Stay, showcasing his ability to bridge traditional classical technique with modern, genre-bending sound.

In 2024, Malik had the honor of performing alongside the legendary Stevie Wonder as part of the Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart tour. His career highlights also include performances with the Matt Jones Orchestra, leading to an appearance with PJ Morton on NPR’s Tiny Desk in 2017, as well as contributions to John Legend’s Grammy-nominated Christmas album in 2018. A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Malik is an accomplished cellist, a self-taught guitarist, and a formally trained pianist.

Malik is currently in his second year as an Artist in Residence at the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum in Milwaukee, WI, where he presents weekly live performances and facilitates interactive, family-centered workshops rooted in social-emotional learning. Through music, movement, and storytelling, Malik engages children and caregivers in experiences that foster emotional expression, empathy, creativity, and connection.

Since 2021, Malik has also been dedicated to music education across Southeastern Wisconsin, working with elementary, middle, and high school students to help them discover the transformative power of music. Alongside his teaching and residency work, he continues to produce and perform for artists across genres, blending classical foundations with contemporary production to create music that resonates with audiences of all ages.
